Paris, October  18, 2010 -

Bull announces today the creation of a new consulting unit focused on the evaluation and transformation of IT infrastructures based on business requirements.

This competence center will primarily serve the French market and support the local services delivery units of the Bull international affiliates; it will be focused on the delivery of Bull Advisory Services that complement the Group's current range of high value-added services. Building on its extensive expertise in data centers and its partnerships with industry leaders, Bull is aiming to help organizations tackle the major challenges involved in implementing IT solutions that can respond rapidly to changing business requirements.

Measuring the maturity of IT infrastructures, aligning them with the services levels demanded by the business, and optimizing costs

Nowadays, IT Departments need to provide systems that are sufficiently agile, available and reliable to guarantee the kinds of service levels their users' require, and to rapidly adapt to business ecosystems and technological evolutions such as Cloud computing. IT Departments need to apply a new kind of services-oriented approach, in order to ensure that they fully understand the issues faced by their internal customers' and effectively anticipate the impact of change on their IT infrastructures. This will not only help them structure their relationships with the business, but also lead to the implementation of fully optimized environments.

This is the underlying aim of the new business unit, Bull Advisory Services, which will work with the business and IT Departments to evaluate, analyze and optimise all the components of their IT infrastructures (servers, networks, storage, backup and archiving). Bull's consultants will deliver an accurate picture of users' requirements and the current maturity level of the organisation; including architecture components, procedures and service levels. Teams from the new unit will also define and recommend steps for remediation and improvement in the short, medium and long term, prioritized in a transformation roadmap.

All the consultants from Bull Advisory Services hold ITSM certifications, and utilize the methodologies developed by GlassHouse Technologies; the leading American consulting firm in IT infrastructure transformation and optimization, with whom Bull established a strategic alliance in March 2009 aimed at jointly offering infrastructure consulting services throughout Europe.

"IT Departments are faced with a dual challenge: to improve service levels, while at the same time reducing their costs," explains Guillaume Leroy, Director of Bull Advisory Services. "The mechanisms for optimizing and structuring the services they provide to users have to be put in place, in the same way that ERPs have already structured the world of management. Our service consultants have built up just this kind of expertise, using the ITSM standard and highly structured consulting methods. This professional and disciplined approach enables them to achieve short-term savings of between 30% and 50% on infrastructure-related costs, while at the same time improving the quality of service delivery and making systems easier to manage. That is Bull Advisory Services' whole raison d'être."

Consultants from Bull Advisory Services carry out highly targeted audits and consulting assignments:

  • GPS services: to rapidly evaluate the usage levels of Data Center resources and identify the sources of immediate savings/¿quick wins'

  • COMPASS services: which involves specifying solutions to improve, optimize and transform IT architectures, with a comprehensive picture of their state of maturity

  • VISION services: which provide an accurate view of the key elements within each infrastructure to enable better management of risks, costs and service levels

  • Energy audits

  • Definition of the services catalogue; shared by the IT Department and the business

  • Definition of the baseline technical and functional architecture

  • Cost analysis, in order to evaluate ROI (return on investment).

What differentiates Bull Advisory Services is its ability to conclude assignments rapidly, thanks to its operational methodology based on a highly structured, professional approach to data collection, and analysis.. Its consultants have expertise across the entire infrastructure services value chain, taking a multi-vendor, multi-ISV and multi-skilled approach.

The business has already completed numerous successful assignments for major organizations in the private sector, its main target market.
