La Poste chooses Le cloud by Bull to access an ultra high-availability hosting infrastructure

Value-added hosting contract renewed for a six-year fixed term, worth a minimum of €27millions.

Paris, June  21, 2012 -

Following a tendering period of over six months, the Postal Services and group senior management teams at the French Post Office, La Poste, have shown their continued trust in Bull, for the provision of a secure, ultra high-availability hosting infrastructure to meet the La Poste group's service continuity requirements for its strategic activities.

Service quality and cost optimization: the keys elements of the new contract

La Poste is well on the way to implementing its strategic plan and developing its multi-activity business model; and through this contract, the group is keen to benefit from high levels of service delivery and a long-term partnership to optimize the efficiency of its infrastructures. The aim is to continually support the changes in IT architecture and variations in processing capacity, to stay constantly in step with business needs.

Using its Le cloud by Bull approach, Bull is providing La Poste with three highly secure, interconnected computing suites, operating on a 24x7 basis. Bull is using its expertise in Data Center systems architecture, as well as the power of its industrial-scale tools to supervise, manage, rationalize and maintain overall service delivery. Bull will be developing a dedicated, real-time system monitoring portal to oversee service quality and the production of dashboards for effective system management.

"Service continuity is vitally important for the development and performance of our business activities," commented Robert Demory, Technical and Production Director at the Postal Services division of the La Poste group. "Bull addressed our requirements as closely as possible, thanks to its unique expertise in secure infrastructures. With this new contract, we are entering into a long-term relationship with Bull that should enable us to go even further in the continual optimization of our infrastructures, especially in terms of controlling energy consumption and cutting costs."

The hosting solutions will also cover value-added services delivered at a local level, including the management of requests, incidents, technical changes and assets; all as part of an on-going aim to rationalize IT infrastructures, optimize quality and keep costs under control.

"This contract reflects Bull's ability to respond to the demands of even the most mission-critical of environments, by offering made-to-measure services on an industrial scale," added Philippe Miltin, Vice-President of the Computing Solutions Business Line at Bull. "This reaffirms the significant investments we are constantly making in our Data Centers to offer highly secure, logically designed and environmentally friendly infrastructures."

A strong commitment to green IT

Bull - whose main Data Center in the Maine-et-Loire département of France received the EU COC* award for exceptional implementation of best practice in energy performance, from the European Commission in May 2011 - will be working alongside La Poste in a commitment to constantly lower the PUE** over the course of the contract. The results of carbon footprint measurements will also be shared with La Poste. For Bull, this will involve continually optimizing its computer suites, especially through the use of state-of-the-art hardware and equipment, 'free cooling' technologies and the implementation of best practice as recommended by the EU.
