Bull launches Bull Optimal Database Booster, to optimize the performance of Oracle databases running on its Escala servers

Paris, October  7, 2013 -

Bull has today announced the launch of Bull Optimal Database Booster (ODB): a solution designed and developed by the Bull Center of Expertise, to boost the performance of Oracle databases running on its Escala server family.

Optimizing application performance

Bull Optimal Database Booster (ODB) pushes back the boundaries of traditional storage, by moving all or part of the Oracle database over to more powerful storage, through the use of virtual disks running on high-performance components. ODB allows the most appropriate Oracle database objects to be moved at any particular time to be visualized, along with an assessment of the resulting potential performance improvements. As a result, application queries can be run up to ten times faster, no matter what type of application is involved.

"Experts from the Bull Oracle Center of Expertise have employed all their know-how to develop ODB, so as to enable better use of both server and storage resources, while at the same time significantly improving Oracle database performance for our Escala customers," stresses Olivier Gaumont, Director of Enterprise Servers & Storage at Bull.

Simple to integrate and to use

ODB is easily installed as part of an existing server and storage architecture, with no need to modify the application code or migrate the database.

Thanks to an intuitive graphical user interface (GUI), ODB enables administrative tasks relating to the reorganization of the Oracle database to be automated and monitored, with no need for highly qualified system or database administrators to get involved.

Data protection

ODB has been designed for maximum data protection, even in the case of system breakdown or disasters. Internal Oracle mechanisms or Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN) ensure data resilience.

Working within tight budgets

ODB allows customers to reduce capital expenditure, by optimizing server and storage resources while also delivery the required performance. Because there are fewer tedious administrative and tuning tasks, operating costs are also kept to a minimum. There is no need to buy any additional Oracle licenses, because ODB does not require any additional processors to run.

Escala: the platform of choice for Oracle databases

Thanks to their leading-edge reliability, availability and ease of maintenance - inspired by mainframe technology - as well as their high levels of security, unrivalled performance and excellent price/performance ratios, for many years now Bull Escala servers have been the platform of choice for critical applications, especially Oracle databases.

Their impressive scalability guarantees the sustainability of customers' IT investments over the long term. ODB takes full advantage of the Escala POWER 7 servers' huge RAM, for spectacular acceleration of Oracle database performance.
