Bull announces two new NovaScale Universal servers integrating dual-core Intel® Xeon® 7100 series processors

Bull announces four-socket dual-core R480 & T880 servers integrating the new Intel® Xeon® 7100 series processors - codenamed Tulsa. The R480 and T880 servers complete Bull's NovaScale Universal range. They meet the performance and reliability requirements of mission-critical applications, ERPs, databases and consolidation.
In addition, the R480 & T880 servers, available in rack or tower format, deliver the scalable performance and energy savings provided by the new Intel technologies.
As all NovaScale servers, the new servers are administered by NovaScale Master, the software suite developed by Bull in order to facilitate operations and reduce the management costs of IT infrastructures.
Outstanding price/performance ratio and energy savings
The servers based on Intel® Xeon® 7100 series processors provide doubled performance and nearly three times better performance/watt over the previous generation. 16MB of cache L3 allow optimal performance for demanding business-critical applications.
A platform ideally suited for consolidation and virtualisation
The R480 & T880 models feature new virtualisation technologies provided by dual-core Intel® Xeon® processors. Robust and scalable, NovaScale servers contribute to improving the Data Center efficiency while reducing the total cost of ownership through consolidation.

The Intel® Xeon® series 7100 processor boasts more than 1.3 billion transistors on a 800Mhz FSB bus. A 16MB shared cache is based on an innovative architecture that features Intel Cache Safe technology. The dual-core processor integrates as well the Intel VT virtualisation technology. In addition, processors are compatible with Intel E8501 chipset, delivering an energy consumption reduction of - 40 % on 95-watt model
